The 1969 US Corps of Engineers’ construction of the twin east pass channel jetties has proven to be a guard of utmost importance, keeping the East Pass Channel safe from the Gulf of Mexico’s shifting sands. With the channel being dredged periodically to maintain it’s (approximately 14.5 feet) mean channel depth, it becomes increasingly clear as to it’s vital role in connecting the 100 miles of coastline between Pensacola and Panama City to the Gulf.
